Shadowed Realms is born!

The brainchild of a long weekends worth of toil has finally birthed itself in a singularly spectacular fashion. That’s right, Shadowed Realms (formerly the Brimstone project), is now a reality.

In short, Shadowed Realms is an online magazine dedicated to dark speculative fiction. In fact, it is the ONLY Australian webzine that specialises in dark fantasy and horror.

The official (abbreviated) media release (sent to a number of market listings and media outlets) tells the whole story:

Shadowed Realms

Emerging from the darkness is a new player on the Australian speculative fiction scene. Shadowed Realms ( is an Australian online magazine specialising in dark, psychological or supernatural fiction. Each bimonthly issue features eight flash (short-short) fiction stories, and two longer tales. Shadowed Realms is a paying market, dedicated to showcasing the finest Australian, New Zealand, and Oceanic writing talent, while remaining open to international submissions.

The news of this magazine should cause a few ripples. Like me, the webzine has hovered in stealth mode below the radar. Now it is out in the open and ready to face the world. As parents of this vehicle, Ange and I are damn proud.

It has been only a few precious hours since the news was catapulted across the net. While I am waiting for the impact, the initial signs are good. The parent site, ( has marked a 100% increase in traffic today.

Don’t be left behind, check out Shadowed Realms now. Submit a story and spread the word!
