I haven’t made any new year resolutions, but my life has been quietly building to the point where I’m keen to throw myself back into writing. My very recently released collection, The Abandonment of Grace and Everything After, is a massive milestone for me, and I’ll talk more about that soon.
However, right now I want to share great news with fans of the adventures of Yamabushi Kaidan (The Smoke Dragon and The Mist Ninja). I completed the first book of the Yokai Wars series, Circle of Tears, at the end of 2014. Now, I’ve begun work on Yokai Wars Book 2: Clockwork Legion. Yes, actual writing is happening, and for the first time in a long time, I’m loving every second of it.
So how awesome is Clockwork Legion? Think samurai meets steampunk. Here’s the short synopsis:
Heartless, soulless machines built through Da Vinci ingenuity and controlled by dark Arabian sorcery force feuding samurai warlords to set aside their differences before Japan is plundered. Yumi’s quest to become the Kensei, Japan’s most skilled warrior, brings her into conflict with the legion’s Tuscan masters and Oda clan allies. Kaidan and Akio use their influence to bring bitter rivals the Tiger of Kai and the Dragon of Echigo together to lead Japan’s defence. But in war, nothing is certain, and when the invaders’ sorcery goes awry, Akio, Yumi, and Kaidan stand to lose everything.
This year, I’ll chart my progress and talk about the characters and other fun stuff from the Yokai Wars. Please swing by regular for updates.
