2009 Ditmar congrats

Congratulations to the 2009 Ditmar Award winners and commiserations to everyone who missed out! Craig & Matt, I hope you gave a suitably embarrassing speech for Angela’s Ditmar (and you’re generally having a great time at the con!)

Ditmar Award recommendations – the intro

The Ditmar Awards are open for nominations (for Aussie work published in 2008). There’s a post about the categories and process on HorrorScope. Nominations close May 4. I would heartily recommend that if you’re interested in nominating works and achievements but you’re not sure what was noteworthy from 2008, you should consult the HorrorScope recommended […]

Ditmar Award recommendations – pro categories

For mine, the most overlooked Aussie spec fic novel of the year and certainly among the best. Best Novella/Novelette “The Claws of Native Ghosts” by Lee Battersby (The Beast […]

Empire building

Russell B Farr has started a Google group to run a moderated discussion on amendments to the Ditmar Awards. I joined it today and then quit – I can’t afford to get involved in this debate any further as I’m likely to be burning bridges if I do. My whole and sole (and admittedly minor) […]

Award to the wise

I had a fascinating exchange tonight that’s probably worth sharing for anyone interested in the decision-making behind awards ballots (in this case, the Ditmar Best New Talent award). Draw your own conclusions here… (in the comments). Amongst other things, I learned that the William Atheling Jr Award is not considered a ‘professional award’. Fascinating!

Quadruple threat!

So, the Ditmar Awards have been announced and what do you know, it’s looks to be a strong and varied list! Several of my picks didn’t make the list, but quite a few did, which was heartening to see. Aussie awards (the annual subjective guide)

It’s awards season and from a quick trawl it seems like almost everyone has been sensible about it all this year. Here’s a few thoughts/comments: 1.
