I was thrilled to learn last week that my novella Dreams of Destruction was shortlisted for an Australian Shadows Award (the Paul Haines Award for Long Fiction). Last night, the winners were announced, I was even more thrilled and surprised to discover that I was among them! It was also my birthday yesterday, so I couldn’t think of a more brilliant birthday present!
It’s an honour to win an award connected with Paul Haines.
The judges comments about my story were:
In what was a relatively small and even field, this was a rollicking romp with Australiana written all over it.
Thanks so much to Mark Smith-Briggs and everyone at the AHWA, and especially the judges, Jay, Lee, and Kathy. Thanks, too, to David Conyers, Liz Grzyb (for breaking the news!), and to everyone for their kind comments on Facebook. Congratulations to all the winners and the other nominees!
